Oregon Enacts Statute Providing Additional Protection for Claims Under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act

Oregon enacted a statute that provides additional protection to service members and their families.  If someone fails to remedy a violation of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act within 30 days of receipt of written notice, that person is liable for the service member's attorney fees and actual damages or $1,000, whichever is greater.  In addition, if the violation is found to be willful, then the person is liable for treble damages and attorney fees.

This provides valuable additional protection to service members and will make it easier for them to find legal assistance in defending their rights.
